Guys, I got my Quad and i’m planning to buy the Kona LHe.
Question: does it need a Drive Array to work well?
or can I just add a second internal HD for video?

    thankz

What type of video will you be working with? Never-the-less, a good RAID is always the best bet.

buy an external drive – even if it’s a cheap FW800 external drive.

Depends on the media format you plan to work in. That will determine the drive speed you require and will help you determine whether a single drive will work or not.

I personally hate internal drive solutions and only go with external arrays.

Ok… I’m gonna work with BetaSP, DV and HDV. Maybe Digibeta.
    Not planning to go HD.

And i tought that an internal drive was fastest then a FW800 drive.
    am I wrong?

Down here in Brazil, video equip. is sooo expensive, that’s why i’m asking for advices…
of course i want a RAID, but the cost will be another QUAD, wich i’ll pay almost U$ 6000 in here.
prices here are just too high.

    thankz

A single internal drive is slower than a FW 800 RAID, such as the G-RAID.

You can do what my family does when they go to Jamaica…. buy a drive and wrap it up in a bunch of clothing. 🙂 sorry…had to throw that in there. I feel your pain.

I have a raid on ebay that would certainly meet your requirements…and cost a lot less than 6kUSD, not sure what the import duty might be, but we can check the shipping from Toronto if you enquire at the auction site.
