I have a setup for on-set recording for commercials/feature film productions.
When running 2 cameras i need the 2 feeds to be in sync for better performance in my software.
The cameras do not need to be genlocked, it is only because 2 cameras in sync will give better recordings/playbacks.

If I give the Kona3G external sync it would work, right?

Is there a way to derive the frame sync from one camera and “feed” it to Kona3G to make both videofeeds in sync, without additional hardware?

I have a BMD Smarthub connected to Kona3G.

    Thanks, MVB

[Morten Berg] “he cameras do not need to be genlocked, it is only because 2 cameras in sync will give better recordings/playbacks.”

But that is what genlock does, it keeps cameras in sync with each other, why do you say you do not need it?

Because i do not need the cameras to be.

If they are it would solve my “problem” but i do not want to sync the cameras (extra wires, boxes and it takes time)

I only need the signals to be in sync not what is recorded in camera…..

So you do not want to waste time onset- but you are willing to waste time in post?

Most cameras now can TC sync to external source (clock-it) in a matter of seconds, hell you can do it with an iPad and the MovieSlate app.

TC sync would then allow you to do this with TC.

This is for on-set edit, not post, not 3D..
I just get a better video grab, when video is in sync… So can I make the video streams in sync, but not in camera… My solution needs to be seamless for camera crew….

    Thanks

slightly off-topic: as I recall it, TC sync is not god with the Epics, it needs to be genlocked?

Epics cannot be genlocked without the Meizler module.

Using a clock-it box to Regen and then set TC in the unit would solve all of these issues and allow for better continuity for post.

(hard cabling for genlock is usually just for live event switching and 3D)

    Thanks!

So you do not see any way to solve my issue in my end of the camera?
Just to clarify, if I put genlock into my KONA3G it will not solve anything because the cameras do not have the same ref, right?…
    Thanks for replies…

Correct. genlock to the boards will not solve your issue.

This problem is solved simply by using a TC generator and syncing the cameras via Timecode
