June 3, 2005 at 3:10 pmThank you everyone, both AJA and BlackMagic for replying. I’ve got some info to go on now.
Everyone, I am sorry if I unintentionally reopened some sore history. I certainly didn’t mean to. I have been editing SD on a Mac since Digital Voodoo (that wasn’t a fun transition for some of us!), so I have an idea of how the industry changes. A lot of my colleagues have begun to look at capture cards as semi-disposable. That isn’t a bad thing at all! That is precisely why we love the FCP and Apple editing solution. The flexibility that several capture card manufacturers have provided has been a huge factor in helping bring down the costs of professional editing. I am an editor, so I do get hit when the unstability of a card is causing issues. However, I’ve never seen such fast response by independant parties (BM and AJA, etc) since I started editing.
Anyway, let me put away the soapbox. Yes, there’s still stuff that could be clearer. Let’s ask for it! I’ve always gotten a clear answer from AJA tech’s and sales people. They are the best, even when they have to tell you the card you are using is not the highest priority at the moment. So, thank you Nick and Luke for helping shed some light on where we Kona SD users can go for current drivers!
