Kona SD drivers?
Posted by Gregg Ferguson on May 16, 2006 at 3:36 pmHi,
I need help! I am running a Mac G4 dual 1.42 2 gigs RAM, OSX 10.4.6 and FCP 5.1 with a Kona SD card. I cleaned off my bootdrive and wiped out all Balckmagic Drivers I had for this card. Now I am having trouble finding any drivers. My card came with Blackmagic V.2.4 and there was an updated set for FCP4.
It looks like both BlackMagic and AJA support has been discontinued for this card, I understand why…I am hoping someone has a work around or a solution that could help me.
Thank you,
Gregg Ferguson

May 16, 2006 at 3:51 pmHello,
While AJA cannot provide you with the drivers that were supplied with your card rginally (the original developer ceased support for them), please contact us and perhaps there is an easy upgrade to a newer generation of KONA card, with AJA built and supported drivers.
Thank you,

I don’t want to get into a huge arguement but this isn’t true.
When AJA & Blackmagic split, Blackmagic said they would support the Kona SD card for
as long as they could.spin down the page & find the driver you need

May 16, 2006 at 9:42 pmHi Peter,
It is unclear from your link which driver package you are recommending. Perhaps you can steer Gregg to which driver supports his card.
Gregg, please be aware that AJA cannot extend support to you if you use the BM driver, as it is an unapproved configuration. AJA can only supprt KONA SD cards which use the original KONA SD driver.
If you wish to discuss further, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you,

But wasn’t the original driver a Blackmagic one?
What was the last driver version that you both agreed on? I will power up my old G4
with its Kona SD card and check which one I was running with for Gregg.Peter

May 17, 2006 at 4:52 pmHi,
The original KONA driver was supplied by BM for the KONA SD. This ORIGINAL driver was dropped by BM, and then integrated support for KONA SD into their Decklink driver packages. This BM Decklink driver is the one we cannot support directly.
The last AJA KONA SD driver supplied by BM was version 4.0b8. This driver was licensed by AJA from BM, and therefore we cannot offer it as a download on our website. The KONA drivers now on our website are all built and supported by AJA, but there is no support in these drivers for the KONA SD.
Again, please feel free to contact us if you need additional information, or wish to discuss alternative routes. We would be pleased to offer you a generous upgrade to perhaps a KONA LS, which offers more capability than your exisiting KONA SD, and is free of these confusing driver issues.
Thank you,

May 28, 2006 at 1:33 pmWell the company I was with stayed with the KonaSDs until only recently. (Upgraded to Kona LHs) The Blackmagic Drivers do in fact work fine with the original Kona SD. Though you must use the latest drivers. I think it was versions. 5.18-5.24 that had problems with the Kona. Or course this support probably won’t last forever and with the prices of these cards now less than half of what you probably paid for the Kona SD v1 it might be time to consider an upgrade.
