  • Kona LS can work without PCI-X ?

Posted by Melvin Chong on December 13, 2005 at 11:07 am

    Hi,

Just read on AJA website that no mention of PCI-X slots is needed for the LS. Can anyone confirm that it will work well on G5s without PCI-X slots ?

    Cheers !

    Yes
the LS {SD only} board will run in a standard PCI 66 slot. -mine currently runs in a DP G4

as a matter of fact, if you have an ATTO UL4D (for example), you SHOULD put the UL4D in the PCI-X slot and put the Kona LS in the standard PCI slots (2 or 3).

I’m sorry but I don’t get you. The G5 has no PCI-X slot at all.

    Hi Darth Vadar –
on the current MAC G5’s, slot 2 and 3 are PCI slots and slot 4 is the PCI-X 133MHz slot.

    Hey Darth,

G4 machines have 33MHz PCI slots
G5’s with 4 RAM slots have 33MHz PCI slots
G5’s with 8 RAM slots have PCI-X slots
    Slot 4 = 133MHz PCI-X
    Slot 2 and 3 are 100MHz PCI-X

The import thing to remember is slots 2 and 3 share a controller and if you put a 33MHz card in Slot 2 that will drop Slot 3 to 33MHz too. This is where you run into issues. Most Firewire cards are 33MHz PCI and some sounds cards so just beware of those situations where you might combine cards in those slots.

    The KONA products just ROCK!

“G5’s with 4 RAM slots have 33MHz PCI slots”

I’m running a 2x2Ghz w/PCI slots and willing to know if it’s true that Kona LS will work fine with this setup ?
I bought a Decklink SP which simply doesn’t do its job because of a PowerMac firmware that cause the board not to work at all.

I’d like to know if this Aja board designed to works on G4 PCI also works on G5 PCI ?
