Kona LHe playback problem – any help appreciated!
Hey guys,
We’ve had a Kona LHe card for a little over a month now and it’s been absolutly awesome – we upgraded from the cinewave system and love the advantages it has over it.
However today after a digibeta capture session through SDI, we tried to playback some of the SD 10bit U/C clips on the timeline and we were no longer seeing anything on the monitor out via component – we can’t monitor in SDI but component has always been fine.
There are only 2 things I can think of – after logging today, one of our editors tried to change a reel name in the logging bin after it had been captured. FCP warned that changing the reel name would be a bad idea so he hit cancel then FCP crashed. The other thing was that I installed Flip4Mac into quicktime yesterday so maybe that was the problem. The card still captures fine and even shows what is being captured through the external monitor, but it won’t playback through the external monitor from the timeline or viewer/canvas windows. Now it could be either of these things (they are all I can think of that has happened) since we’ve only been capturing for 2 days, not playing back at all. As of 2 days ago however, playback was fine. Does anyone have any ideas of what we can do to get playback back?
I’ve reinstalled the Kona drivers and FCP (without uninstalls) and still nothing. Below are the details of what we’re using. Really appreciate if anyone has any ideas – thanks!

did you check to make sure the Video out is set to all frames in FCP?
Did you re-apply the easy set up you were using?I have found that the version of FCP you are using to be unstable and after it crashes always trash the Prefs. and reset the video out.

Also, the warning that you saw is FCP letting you know that you are going to be changing the reel number. This is what your editor wanted and that’s actually a good idea and not a bad idea. If you ever have to recapture, the reel number will now be correct. Nothing else is changed in the quicktime movie. Choosing the proper easy setup should refresh FCP so that you can see your outgoing footage, and make sure that your log and capture window is closed before trying to view your footage out through FCP. Trashing your prefs never hurts as Gary alluded to.

Thanks for the advice guys. I had indeed tried to reset the easy setups with no joy however blowing away the preferences and reinstalling the Kona drivers again has returned everything to perfect working order. Thanks very much for the help!
