Just recieved my LHe…doing a broadcast hour with a mix of DV and BetaSP…I have a DSR-11 and UVW-1800. Plan to bring in the Beta component to a UC 8 or 10 bit codec, but not sure the best/cleanest way to encode the DV – firewire, but then I need to render it all, right? – or S-Video/Composite out of the DSR-11, which is probably pretty lossy…any suggestions? Finished show would go SDI out to DigiBeta.

Because of high shooting ratio, probably will do a low res off-line, and then a recapture at full UC…any helpful advice on getting the best out of a low res capture?…Anything else I should be aware of? My old Igniter would lock in settings that I used to capture the low res footage, which weren’t changable once I went to on-line capture…

PS – also, the fan in my G5 goes full blast once it goes to sleep since I’ve put the card in…the room is in the 60’s usually…what gives?

Any advice would be helpful…thanks, Erik

    Eric,

I’ll leave the timeline and rendering questions to the experts here, but regarding the fan issue I’d suggest buying a copy of Hardware Monitor or some other utility that will allow you to see what the internal temperatures are in your box. They won’t record sensor readouts while the machine is asleep, but it would be good to know what’s going on right before you sleep it.

I find my fans running their fastest when the screen saver kicks in on my two monitors. That was a surprise.

    Regards,
    David
