Kona LH and XDCAM HD monitoring
i posted this in the FCP forum by mistake. It is probably more applicable here.
so it looks like we are going to go with XDCAM HD as our new aquisition format.
it all looks and sounds great. just a few post questions for those using the format.
how are you monitoring your edits…i assume that as it’s Mpeg Long GOP, FCP can’t output to my broadcast monitor as per the limitations it has with HDV?
using an AJA Kona LH will that allow me the downconverted HD signal to my SD monitor?G5 DP 2.0 (Power PC)

Correct but the Kona LH card will allow you to monitor all of the content in your timeline in realtime, even color correction and dissolves, because you are playing out via the card instead of converting back to HDV for playout.
Yes the Kona Cards offer realtime playback AND downconversion of HDV material – they are one of the best tools for the HDV content producers to allow them to play and preview their content on HD or SD displays.
