    Hi all’
Now i know that Kona cards (i intend to buy LHi to down convert HD to SD) will give me the best possible broadcast quality, but my question is; Do i need a deck with SDI input or i could do the conversion internally and then print the converted file to tape, and still have the best quality.
    thanks

    thanks Rafael
but I’m still not certain as my sony deck got firewire and component input and I’v read previously on this forum that a component will give me a very bad quality conversion, and thats why I need to know if possible to convert and export the HD file using Kona to the desktop and then import the SD file back to print to tape via firewire.
    thanks
    Does that make sense!!

Capture cards like the Kona don’t convert when you compress internally. They only convert when you capture or output.

[salah Elfalahi] “a component will give me a very bad quality conversion, “
This is not true at all.
Components have been the top standard for many years.
if your desk have FW and Components, is the best option to record with high quality.
Just play your HD and let the KONA downscale.

    thanks again rafael
I’ve always wanted to buy one of kona cards but i thought only SDI input would give me better quality than compressor, but if component would do the same, then I’ll go for it.
    thanks very much

    I agree.

component video input and output will offer the OP the best quality possible.

HD/ SDI is the digital version of a Component Y’Cr’Cb’ signal with the addition of timecode, audio and metadata in one pipe.
