I have a Kona card and Mackie studio hr824 audio monitors. After purchasing the card, i realized that the audio outs of the Kona 2 are all digital and thus, do not work with my Mackie monitors. What is the best way to monitor audio out of the Kona, if possible without using rca’s and without having to buy a whole new set of monitors? Thanks.

You need one of these, or any other audio ad/da convertor. Search around, prices may vary.

Just buy a digital mixer. Every edit system should use a mixer of some type, analog or digital.

I’d love to hear some recommendations for Digital Mixers. I’ve been thinking this might be a good road to take. Preferences? Pros/Cons?

    Thanks,

you don’t need a digital mixer at all. You send the embedded digital audio via the SDI or HD SDI signal back and forth between your VTR and your Kona.
All you need is a CHEAP mixer, ilke a Behringer or Mackie, to take the RCA ouputs of the Kona into the mixer, and the mixer out into the speakers. The mixer becomes a fancy inexpensive volume control, for allowing you to control your monitor levels. The Mackie 824 speakers are EXPENSIVE, and you don’t want to blow them ! Buy a small mixer.
