Kona 3/Black magic in same Mac Pro tower
Posted by Tim Maloney on September 6, 2010 at 3:46 amHello All,
Has any one installed both a Kona 3 and BMD card in a Mac Pro tower at the same time?
If I want to use Da Vinci resolve instead of Color ( and I’m seeing a resolve demo later this week ) could I use the BMD? Then for the other 95 per cent of the time, use my trusty Kona 3.
I’m assuming Resolve won’t work with the Kona 3.
Planning to spec a new Mac Pro.
Best

September 6, 2010 at 1:24 pmI was actually going to test this very setup this week but I don’t have enough slots in the machine. We’re currently testing Resolve and I asked BMD if I could run both at the same time and they honestly didn’t know. So I figured I would just try it, but with only four slots in the machine, I don’t have room for both.
If I have some time at some point, I might try it out. I’m thinking it would work just fine with two boot discs in the machine. One that has the AJA Drivers loaded and one that has the BMD drivers loaded. But I have no idea and quite honestly will anyone have enough slots to try it out?
And you’re correct, Resolve is not supported by AJA at this time. Here’s the configuration we’re running right now with our Resolve testing:

September 6, 2010 at 4:24 pmBob Zelin wrote an article a while back about the Dulce Pro Extender. As I understand it, this expands the number of slots you can use. If your tests go well and you need the extra slots this might be an option.

September 6, 2010 at 8:44 pmit’s about $3000 for this product. Most people would never do this.
This product came out to allow for multiple RAID cards to be running in one MAC system, but today with SAS port expansion widely available, there is little use for this. Hey, it’s an AMAZING product, but it costs as much as an entire MAC.And why can’t Apple put in 6 slots into a MAC Pro tower ?
