Kona 3 with Final Cut Pro X 10.0.9 / OSX 10.8.5 not working at all

We’re trying to make this setup work following AJA instructions and the whole thing just doesn’t work.
When, in the AJA control panel, in the format tab, we try to select, for the primary frame buffer, any other format than the one appearing by default, – 2K1556sf24-, it just doesn’t do it, it stays there.
And in FCP X, in the A/V output tab, we find one and one only format which is not either the one we want.
We have a minimal setup at the moment, with no input / output going in / out of the Kona 3, so in a first instance I thought that might be the cause of the problem, but when we fed a signal to the REF IN input is not even recognised in the AJA control panel.
Very frustrating indeed, we’d like to add a broadcast monitor to the set-up but right now we’re just paralysed
Any ideas ?
