Kona 3 Svideo
Posted by Chris Anderson on September 18, 2008 at 6:10 pmI have a new Kona 3 and when viewing the SVideo connection there’s a slight checkerboard pattern applied to it. Both composite and component look fine. It’s noticed from the control panel pattern as well as Final Cut. I’ve tried different cables.
I was going to use this connection for my hardware DVD recorder. Is there a setting that needs adjusted?
I wanted to be sure before I called AJA.Thanks,

September 18, 2008 at 6:13 pmS-Video? There’s no S-Video connection on a Kona 3. Are you using one of those cables that converts S-Video to Composite?

I’m using a cable that has svideo on one end to 2 bnc connections which connect to the y and c of the Kona box. -

September 18, 2008 at 6:50 pmWhat’s your source material?
Is it 10bit uncompressed and it the footage scaled at all?

September 18, 2008 at 7:27 pmNo, it’s HDV with render set to ProRes. Plus it’s still there when I send a test signal from the control panel which I have set to 525/29.97 composite + y/c on my secondary analog out
Thanks,

September 18, 2008 at 7:44 pmno, the sequence settings are HDV 1080 60i. Plus the composite output looks fine.
It looks like an overlay of a grid of small squares. -

September 18, 2008 at 7:51 pmSorry to be so redundant, but I used to have the exact same artifact with scaled 10bit footage in FCP. I haven’t seen it quite sometime.
It’s only SVideo? Are you sure that your adapter cable is good?

September 18, 2008 at 8:31 pmProblem Solved!
I had the Y connected to the wrong bnc on the Kbox. Switching it the middle connection solved it. I’m surprised it was giving me a picture at first.
Thanks for the help.
Chris
