Posted by Fred Connors jr. on May 27, 2005 at 6:04 pmHi folks
Is there a way to get the timeline timcode out of the KONA-2?
Thanks
Fred

There is no dedicated Timecode output, but Kona2 does embed timecode in the ancillary timecode (“RP-188”) packets in the SDI outputs.
Be sure to set the “Output Timecode Offset” field in the Kona Control Panel to the “Starting Timecode” of the Sequence.

I have seen the TC out of the KONA2 but it does not correct.
The Sequence starts at 01:00:00:00 and goes to 1:03:30:00 a 3 minute 30 second sequence.
The TC out in the SDI signal shows 00:00:00:00 thru 00:03:30:00, it omits the hours.
I will set the offset timcode to 1:00:00:00 and give that a try.
Thanks

May 28, 2005 at 1:35 amThe funny thing is that with the Mackie control surface for mixing in FCP5 the TC does show up on the Mackie’s display. So obviously TC is being sent out via midi.

How is that working for you? This was one of my top 3 feature requests. When I pick up the Kona2(or other product), I will probably get a MCU as well.

June 2, 2005 at 12:32 amThe Mackie is fantastic- unfortunately the used one I bought had a bad fader so it’s back at mackie for repair- but I did get to use it.
Actually I tried the Behringer bcf2000 $200 fader and it worked well, until you had to change the fades, then it was a problem.
Too bad as a $200 mixer surface is alot more appealing to FCP users than a $1000 one.
The jog control of the mackie was incredible as well – much better than a shuttle pro- it just works so much better.

June 2, 2005 at 3:22 amThanks Dead… good to hear!! This should be good for Mackie!
I can’t imagine a FCP user who won’t add this to their system…especially people who have to online broadcast shows. Mixing in FCP was a nightmare.
I also like the fact that the MCU can be used with other apps.As far as the Behringer, I guess you get what you pay for. $200 is a nice price point, but I’d rather go with name recognition and reputation.
I’ve used Mackie’s all of my professional life…they’ve never given me a problem, so I look forward to getting this unit. Thanks again
Ron
