Kodak Zi8 – Workflow Impossible
I’ve tried just about everything to work with these files.
Obviously the files need to be first transcoded as they are created in H.264
Compressor crashes every time I try to add just one of the files.
So I used Quicktime Pro 7 to create ProRes files. That worked.
When I bring the files into FCP to work with them, that’s when strange things happen.
I make edits with the files and construct a sequence. But when I export, I get a combination of problems. Sometimes the exported sequence will be just black; no audio and no images, just black. Or, it will export aspects of the video that was not even within my In/Out points. Just random footage.
Anybody else have problems with this? All the Zi8 files were shot in 29.97 and will ultimately be part of a project that was shot in 23.97 so they will need to be converted to that frame rate in the end. Somehow.

Yep, Log and Transfer doesn’t work. It only works for Canon H.264 stuff because there’s a specific plug-in for it.

Yeah, it creates successful ProRes files as well. But the problem occurs once I bring these files into FCP and start to edit and export them.
