This is the best *free* tutorial for kinetic typography on Apple Motion that I’ve found yet. It’s really good at going step by step in an easy to understand format.

I’ve got the basics down thanks to this, I only wish I knew how to do a little more, like all the animations I see in kinetic typography videos that aren’t words.

Very nice video indeed! The animations I mean are for example different colored people, or band-aids, or the Earth you used. Are those just images/videos that you got and chroma keyed or something to use?

I am keen on learning how to do kinetic typography for a promo for a benefit concert I am trying to help plan to help victims of rape in Congo.

Yes, they are illustrator files and the earth was created in a 3D program. I didn’t move any of those objects. I laid them out with the text and animated the people’s silhouette scale to have them pop in. Then I used the camera to fly from one set of text to the other, that way the band-aids, globe and silhouettes just animated with the text. Hope this helps and best of luck with your promo.

At the point in the tutorial where it stops, how do you reanimate the camera to zoom in on the word “on”? Do you need to create a new camera?

I always use one camera in Motion. If you watch the Mark Twain quote the whole quote is very fluid. When I can I like to break my Motion project up into segments and “glue” them together in Final Cut Pro. For example, this TV show open I did is multiple Motion projects. When the camera flies to Erin that is one project cut to another because this project was so heavy it started eating up my real time playback capabilities so I looked for ways to make one project multiple projects and then string them together in FCP.
