keywording strategy
Hey folks.
I’m in the early stages of a large project, adding keywords and other metadata to my clips.
I came up with the mind-bendingly genius idea to create a smart collection to show me clips that I haven’t keyworded. FWIW, I let FCPX add folder structure keywords when I imported clips. My smart collection shows me clips that don’t have any of my other keywords in them. It ignores the specific keywords associated with the directory structure.
My trouble now is how to conveniently populate those unmolested clips with keywords.
Ideal workflow: I’m in the ‘no keywords added’ smart collection. I select a handful of clips that deserve the same few keywords. I’d enter all of those keywords, press Enter, the clips would disappear (since they now no longer meet the smart collection criteria) and I move on to the next lot.
The trouble with this workflow is that I can only add a single keyword at a time before the clip(s) in question disappear from the smart collection (by virtue of having now having particular keywords in them).
The best way I can think of overcoming this is the select my clips from the smart collection, then change to a different collection/folder where I know they will show up (e.g. “All Video” or “Entire Library”), then I’m free to add metadata to my heart’s content. Then return the smart collection for the next lot. The issue is I can’t see how to change my folder/collection whilst retaining my selection of clips.
Perhaps I need to modify how my smart collection works, but it escapes me. Any clever people out there have any ideas? All the best,
