I must be doing something wrong, but I cannot see what!

I’ve created Keyword Collections for each of several rooms and have sorted the clips into the appropriate collection and then have applied additional keywords to identify the type of shot etc. Now, when I do a search by inserting a keyword in the search window all I get is a blank result field; however, if I click on the search icon (magnifying glass) I get the search filter and then by adding KEYWORD to the search criteria I am able to do a search. Entering anything in the TEXT field results in the blank result field. Nothing ever appears in the TEXT field of the search window!

Is this normal in 10.0.4 or am I missing atrick?

    TIA

    Geoff.

Keywords aren’t text. Press Cmd-F. Click the + button in the upper right and select keywords. You can deselect them all and activate the ones you want to search for.

    All the best,

This is a bit of a gotcha as keywords are not searchable in the same way text is. As Tom pointed out keywords are only searchable via the tick boxes in the advance filter window which will become a very inefficient way of quickly looking for shots when you start having 20 or 50 or 100 different keyword.

I think keywords are great for loose grouping of shots (Interview, B-roll, Scene, ‘Rooms’ etc – similar to the coloured labels in FCP7) but nothing beats adding a little text in the note field. Then you can properly use the filter in dialogue box. Smart collects are also a very powerfully tool to organise footage,

Yes, it was the fact that TEXT search does not include keywords that stumped me. A pity as it does slow things up. At least I now know that I wasn’t doing anything too stupid!

In case you had not seen this tip on new searching abilities.

Make sure you watch all of the clip, at the end they cover the searching clip types as well.
