November 9, 2013 at 8:10 pm[Bret Williams] “If they could put Motion round trip back in X, I’d do that instead.”
Fingers crossed for the December release

November 10, 2013 at 1:34 pm[Andy Branner] “As much as I too would not only love to see this and think it’s a must-have in the long-run, I recently spoke to someone “in the know” that said that for some odd reason certain people from the dev team who have a say in the matter don’t in fact see further Motion integration as such a huge priority! Huh? Apparently in light of the given options that, in his mind, cover enough of the bases. And apparently the next version is going to go without AGAIN… *sigh*”
I hope they are wrong, even xml import and export would be good. It’s not a deal breaker for me as I’m OK working with it now, but it would be a nice luxury to have

November 11, 2013 at 7:25 pmYou can’t go back and forth. You can only edit the generator or effect.
[Andy Branner] “You realize of course that the “only” thing missing is the “Send to” in the timeline. Because you can publish anything from Motion to FCPX and then go back and forth at will. You’re just stuck with having to run everything through the one or other browser. Not ideal, but possible.”
Unless I’m missing something I can’t figure out how to go any direction but motion>fcpx. Sure I can reedit the template or generator, but that doesn’t affect any instances already in the timeline. And in the case I’m discussing, the template contains many clips that were drop zones, many different texts, etc. And if I decided that I wanted to go in and change something about that other than the clips or texts, I’d have to go edit the template, put it in the timeline, then do all my drop zone and text work again.
When I edit my templates, it doesn’t update any instances in the timeline. Is there a trick?

November 12, 2013 at 4:52 pmBut open in editor or send to motion (they were different things weren’t they?) is everything. It’s what makes the concept useful. Either up front, preparing the selects and timing (send to motion) or editing a prexisting motion project in the FCP timeline (open in editor/open in motion)..
I didn’t know thAt about the text titles. If it keeps the text you enter that’s certainly helpful. I’ll have to give that a try.
Oddly, I read in the X manual that changing apple templates won’t change already existing instances in the timeline but changing copies of those templates will change all preexisting instances of that template in all timelines. Odd because you can’t change an apple template, and odd because in my experience it isn’t true. Hmm.
