  • Keystrokes for transition settings in FCP

Posted by Dan Silber on November 18, 2007 at 3:03 pm

    Hello fellow editors,

I’ve been editing on FCP for a few years now, but the question is really simple:

Does anyone know of a way or workaround to use keystokes to enter what a transition on FCP will be like (ie duration or positionon the cut).

(I did a search on previous forums for the past two years, but no luck.)

    Thanks in advance!

the simple Apple T always applies the default transition.
after than you have to change duration manually,
and there are shortcuts for change alignment, but you have to select the transition.

however you can create your own shortcuts.

set up a bunch of favorite transitions with durations and alignments of your own making.

drag them into the favorites bin in the effects tab of the browser,
    number and name them.
then in your keyboard layout, set up commands for “Transition Favorite” 1-x

oh, backup your favorites in a “favorites” project as they’ll disappear if you trash your prefs, and backup your keyboard layout while you’re at it.

    cheers,
    nick

Make a transition the way you like it and duration you want then make it a favorite. Go to the Effects tab, right click on the transition in Favorites and select Set Default Transition. Or use the default shortcuts created by the application.

    All the best,

I was wondering if there is a shortcut key that will apply a fade in AND out to a clip. It’s a nice time saving button in Avid. I’ve been searching around and can’t seem to find anything.

    Thanks!

Nothing that I know of, but a good feature request.
