And you’re keyspan adapter is connected to what? This is an FCP forum, so I’ll assume you’re using FCP. what version? What capture card? What port on the mac is it connected to? Are you using the latest driver from Keyspan that’s recommended for your version of Mac OS & FCP?

And perhaps most important, are you sure your S-VHS uses RS-422, and not RS-232?

Latest drivers and versions on everything. The keyspan uses a USb port and yes I am using FCP. My deck uses 422

    Is the deck in REMOTE?

Do you have the “control” setting in FCP set correctly?

You first have to make sure the USB device is enabled in Apple System serial device preferences, and then you have to go into the system setups in FCP and manually select the Keyspan for device control.

the keyspan serial assistant recognizes it and I have set it up manually – maybe it is my cable that converts mini sub 8 to 9pin

If this setup hasn’t worked before, you might have the wrong cable. There are many mini-din 8 to DB9 cables for printers, but they don’t work for deck control since they are pinned for RS232.

Addenda has a mac to rs422 cable listed here if you want to buy one. I had to make one in an emergency once, and it’s way easier to buy one:

    Also, pipeline digital https://www.pipelinedigital.com/adaptcm9.html

Here’s the mac mini din 8 to rs422 9pin breakdown:

TXD- mac pin 3 rs422 pin 8 RX-
GND mac pin 4 rs422 pin 4 AND 6 RX Gnd, TX Gnd
RXD- mac pin 5 rs422 pin 2 TX-
    TXD+ mac pin 6 rs422 pin 3 RX+
    RXD+ mac pin 8 rs422 pin 7 TX+

thanks. Sorry, I don’t read the ending stuff with all those pin to pin stuff – I have never made more than a coax cable. Anyway – I am returning my cable and going for a different one and I will let you know
