I spent WAY too long on this today so I thought I would share this:

keyspan was bought by Tripplite and finding the correct driver was a chore. It is actually labeled under a newer device. Apparently the latest version is 2.5 found here: https://drop.io/ml6fumr

this method worked for me on my imac (10.5.6, fcp 6, keyspan usa-28x b, sony uvw-1800)
    unplug keyspan
    install driver
    plug in keyspan
    reboot
in apps select keyspan serial assistant and it should show a device with 3 ports inside

open fcp go to a/v settings and select device control preset
    select “Firewire NTSC” and duplicate
give new name and change protocol to Sony RS-422 (works for my UVW-1800)
select port “Keyserial” or “USA28X1d1P1.1″…they are the same and go to port 1 on the keyspan
go to Log and Capture/Capture Settings and select your profile.

products from AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox and MOTU do not require the Keyspan adaptor. Only AVID does.

    Hi Bob,

Remember I was having problems with the JVC HD100 deck using the AJA kona-lh
    rs-422 some months back?

Rudy from Aja never solved the problem, but a keyspan did so we just left it at that.

    🙂

yep…my keyspan is from an avid but this is a fcp6 emergency set up just to get some analog stuff in on the Canopus ADVC110…no budget for aja with this.
