    Hi,

I’ve already watched Andrew Kramer’s podcast on keylighting, but I’m still having a problem with footage I shot against a blue screen (what our station has). The edges of the talent’s hair is, for lack of a better word, jittering. It looks like a real life version of Dr. Katz. I’ve already tried the choker and adjusting the black and white clip. What can I do to remedy this? Thanks a lot.

It was actually shot using a D9 camera. I imported into avid using composite cables and then exported it to After Effects using a Quicktime Reference file. (I don’t have Automatic Duck, and I can’t really afford it).

    Wow, someone else with D9!

Can you digitize with something other than composite? D9 supports SDi which is the best option, but component would also be a good choice. That would definitely improve your key. And what codec did you export to in QT? Use Animation codec

Another thing to try once you re-digitize: Precompse your raw footage and put a slight blur on it and set the blend mode to “Color”. That will help smooth out the edges of your key.

And finally, make sure your footage is interperted correctly

I don’t have anything to add, except I thought I was the only one who remembered Dr. Katz! I love that show!
