I just had my first experience using Keylight (I know, we’re a little behind the times) and I’m amazed at how powerful of a tool it is. However, I am still having some pixelation issues.

I created a loose matte around the talent because she moves slightly while talking. Then I applied keylight to the remaining greenscreen elements. There are still some pixelation issues within the mask.

Since this was my first experience with keylight, I’m not entirely sure what adjustments I can make to try and soften/eliminate the artifacts in the mask. Outside of tightening up the mask and animating it as she moves, are there any adjustments that I can make within keylight to help get rid of some of the pixelation?

    Thanks for all the help!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that we taped on DVCPro, and the segment was imported into AE as a quicktime file. Hope that might help a little. I know that the digital format isn’t going to provide the best keying in the world, but I’m just curious about keylight. Thanks!

Andrew Kramer did a great Keylight tutorial that’s available here on the Cow. Just search the Tutorial section by author & you’ll find it.

this may or may not help but i exported a qt from avid xpress pro using the dvcpro codec and imported into ae, applied keylight and had terrible artifacts around my subject. i then tried exporting from avid using the avid dv codec and the terrible artifacts around the subject went away. so you may want to experiment with different codecs.

    thanks!
