    Hi there!

Here is the problem and perhaps half of the solution:
I’ve got a scene of my BACKGROUND, a street, plus a scene with a MOVING CAR INCLUDING THE BACKGROUND.

I otta be possible to somehow key the car out of the background, in other words subtracting “background” from “car + background” and thus getting “car minus background”

I’ve tried by laying the “background” layer over the “background + car” layer with the “difference” layer mode, receaving only black (where the background was) and the kind-of-silhouette of the car. However keying out the black in a new composition didn’t work, because the silhouette has too many colors, including lots of black. (then I was going to use this comp in a new comp as alpha layer mask for “car + background” comp).
    Hard to follow?
    I know.
    Can someone help? Thanks!

There is a Difference Matte filter in the Keying section that is used for this. It’s similar to using the layer mode method but gives you some more options such as Matching Tolerance, Matching Softness and Blur before difference

Naturally you’ll be working when that car passes behind your talent or other foreground elements. If small enough I’ve had luck using this method by simply offsetting the replacement layer a few frames when there was no lockdown.
