Keying RED Scarlet footage
We shot some green screen interviews with the RED Scarlet.
Normal setup, green screen looks fine.
But we are getting an unusual amount of noise in the footage when we key.
I tried using the R3D but the debayer process made more noise, so we transcoded to ProRes 4444.
The noise is less but still bad.Are we missing a step? Do I need to apply a LUT or change the gamma space?
I can get a decent key, but the hair edges are bad.Brandon Morris

RED cameras are unusually noisy in the blue/yellow. Run it through some modest noise reduction (Neat Video or Magic Bullet Denoiser II) and you should see your screen matte clear up.

I hate having to use MB Denoiser bc it slows working down so much and has unpredictable renders.
but i have thrown and it does help some, but not a lot.
should i apply before or after key?
i have tried both, before works a little bit better, but after helps clean the edges in hair.the hair is the real problem, i can get a decent key, but the hair is very noisy.

Try the trial of II that came out; MB is using different technology for this version as their original partners on the plugin were bought up by Google. I use Neat Video which uses cpu/gpu combo rendering and the slow down is acceptable for 4K footage.
Use noise reduction first. It removes the noise (basically color contamination) before the matte is pulled and can smooth matte edges because it’s resampling and blending colors.
