keying out white backgound.
so i have this personal project where i need to key out this white background so i could replace the bg obviously with some new backgrounds. Im probably going to be replacing it with some sci fi themed animated dark backgrounds. i was using keylight 1.2 but when i key out the bg some of her skin and clothes are removed. I usually only key out green and when i do its usually a clean and easy easy with minor fixes. I*m not experienced much with roto. I wasn’t able to film this myself because shes in Brazil, and im in the us. I wouldn’t normally work on footage like this. Is there any techniques that you guys know of that i could use to get a clean key of this footage. im attaching a screen shot, and im using adobe after effects cs6 on pc. i have cc on a pc tablet but i dont think its good enough to render out this video.

Keylight is not suitable for this – it is designed for blue and green screen keying, which is a specialist operation.
You need to use the Luma Key effect.
You might need to think about doing this in a few passes because your white is not very white at all.

The Extract effect has replaced Luma Key in After Effects. Use this effect to key out the lighter background. You will need to add an inverted mask to the effect around her face so the lighter areas of her skin/eyes aren’t also keyed out. Fortunately she is wearing dark clothes and has long dark hair all around, though that shine on top of her head may be a little tricky.

The Luma Key effect is still there.
Extract is just a luma keyer with slightly different controls.

You can try to key out the white with the “Extract” effect but you need to mask a few parts of the face like the eyes and the white parts of the hair.
