Keying Issues with HDV
We are working on an HDV project that we are going to output to an SD DVD and we are having issues in the sequence of keying out the the green background. The key is a little jaggy but for the most part is pretty good but we have a woman that has some holes in her hair where the green bleeds through. Is there anything that I could try to get it smoother around her and get rid of the green bleeding through?
The best key that I could find so far involves keying with the Blue Green screen filter, 4:1:1 color sampling and the matte choker. The backgrounf image is an animation if that matters.

Chroma-Keying Keying highly compressed footage like HDV is always a real challenge. The compressioon takes it greatest toll on the color sampling, so blue and green screen keying often suffers.
I’ve not (yet) had great luck with FCP’s built-in keyers for blue or green keying. You might try downloading a plug-in trial version of one the the better known keyers out there, like Primatte or Ultimatte. The other option is to export the required scenes to be keyed to another app. like After Effects, which probably has much better keyers then FCP for this purpose.
