    I have a render of a tv in a in a room — What I’ve been doing is making the tv screen material green and then keying out the green in photoshop so that i can animate whats on the tv. I was wonder if there is a way to create a material or something that would not only be transparent, but would be transparent all the way through if that makes sense. because my ‘green scree is causing a reflection of green on the side of the tv.

    Here are a couple of potential solutions for you.

    One would be to render the screen black and then lay your animation over it in the Screen blend mode (which would allow you to preserve reflections on the screen if desired). You could render a matte of the screen out of C4D to use as a mask.

    If you have After Effects an alternative (requiring some investment) would be the RE:Map plug-in.

    You can render out a UV map of the screen and then map on any animated texture you want. If you set up your scene properly you can keep the reflections you’re complaining about now, but instead of being green they will actually reflect whatever animated texture you apply to the screen via the plug-in! Very cool technique that I like to use when I have these sorts of projects.

    you can apply the movie directly to the screen in C4d – and the movie will show in the reflections,
    or investigate separating the screen from the tv to make it a separate object then apply a Compositing tag to the screen (set it to use buffer 1) then do a multipass render and include Object Buffer (ID 1) in the multipass. that gives a perfect key.

    If he has AE the better way to do it is with an external compositing tag which gives you the option to automatically create a solid at the screen’s location when you export the render to AE. Then just drop the footage on the solid and you’re done.

    An external compositing tag is great for getting the transforms of the C4D object into AE, but the results may not be desirable in some cases. The RE:Map UV plug-in allows you to re-texture the surface in AE, which enables realistic reflections of the surface in reflective objects (with some extra set up), eliminates the need to matte anything and will correctly map the screen even if it has a bulge to it (as many older TVs do). On the other hand it does take some time to learn how to work with the plug-in.
