    Hey Folks,

Any Keylight experts out there? I was hoping someone could give me a few tips on keying the image I’ve linked here.

As you can see, the characters are a bit yellowish and even when I pull what looks like a fairly decent key as seen in the “combined matte” view… the “status” view show lots of green, indicating some pixel mangling. And, when rendered you see tons of noise in the image. Even doing a double key–one for edges and one for inside (cranking clip black and white)–I still get those green warnings and I can’t seem to get a solid interior.

    Any tips would help!

As Dave mentioned in a much better way than I can put it, the light does not help. You will have to do a few passes and some roto maybe. In Keylight you can adjust the Screen Matte – Clip Black to about 13 and White to 62 (approx- your values may differ, especially when you have the actual clip). Also you can use the Foreground Color Correction (enable) and suppress Green.

    Thanks for the input Gents!

In the end, I was able to really take advantage of some of amazing keylight’s fine-tuning–all those little rarely-used dials–and color replacing. It turned out the hardest thing to key–bizarrely–was the black octagonal machine object. So I roto-ed that.

    thanks again
