  • Keyframing masks in Davinci Resolve

Posted by Jakob Eriksen on September 10, 2011 at 2:02 pm

I just finished a music video in Davinci Resolve.
The only thing that gave me headaches were tweeking my animated masks.

Is it not possible to easy interpolate between keyframes?
(as in standard animation of masks – like After Effects).

    Best regards,

I also find it difficult when it comes to keyframing. I prefer AE’s simple keyframing logic.

I like the Resolve ones and they are really easy to use, I just would like to be able to be more selcetive of WHAT I animate.
For example, if you animate a shape and want to increase its softness, you need to do that on every keyframe.
And I didnt find a way to delete the unwanted ones.
So I would vote for a local or global keyframe editor that allows you to animate ONLY the selected parameter.
And auto keyframing , of course 🙂

Also I find keyframes almost impossible to select because of how tiny they are, and zooming/moving around the keyframe timeline is almost impossible.

Oh my gosh I couldn’t agree with you more!

While the dynamics timeline in Resolve is SO much better than Apple Color, I feel like I’m trying to splice genes using a 10 foot pole whenever I try to select the keyframes in Resolve! It really needs a more obvious, dare i say traditional keyframing interface, where you can at least easily grab the keyframes, and grab and drag them in groups, etc.

Good to hear it’s not just me who has a problem with keyframing in Davinci resolve.

The logic is fine as long as you do a transition between two gradings, but animating a mask is quite different. Is would great to keep the work inside resolve.
