keyframing issue
Posted by Douglas Kerr on February 26, 2009 at 6:46 pmHello all,
I’m a relatively new user but I have done lots of keyframing before and have my camera animated nicely but I have hit a problem whilst trying to animate the visibility parameter on the display tag applied to a NURB object.
I seem to be in a strange mode where the second keyframee value overwrites the first and vice-versa and so on and so on.
The Timeline display appears as it should curving from 0 to 100 values but the values are NOT reflected in the tag properties window.
any ideas what i’m doing wrong?

February 27, 2009 at 12:32 amAre you key-framing “Use” or “Visibility”…?
“Use”: will overwrite any other key-frame…
“Visibility”: shows the visibility-key-frame-changes in the visibility-window
when you’re scrolling through the Timeline…Nolan

February 27, 2009 at 9:51 amI’m trying to keyframe the ‘visibility’ paramater of polygons in a nested null object. but the values won’t hold. I know that ‘Use’ is like a switch but that’s not the issue, thanks though for the suggestion.
It won’t work when i try to keyframe any objects paramaters. I’ve toggled the ON/OFF paramater for record button but doesn’t make a difference.
any other suggestions?

February 27, 2009 at 11:17 amWell, I am really not sure why it isn’t working…?
Just did a test: dragged 3 polygon-objects into a Null…
Either I put a Display Tag on the Null (animate visibility altogether),
or I put a Display Tag on all 3 polygon-objects (animate visibility independently),
both ways work nicely…Are you animating that little “dot” (control-click -“Mac”) in front of the word “Visibility”…?

February 27, 2009 at 5:41 pmyes I’m animating fine in other projects but only parameters from objects in this one project won’t animate. camera movements are fine. properties will not…I think it’s a setting somewhere in this project.
still stumped. I will now try copying all the elements to a new project and see if that solves it. still like to know what is causing it.
thanks. Doug

February 27, 2009 at 11:46 pmHave you by any chance turned off the Animation…?
Check that little yellow filmstrip in the Timeline…Nolan

February 28, 2009 at 12:57 pmAs expected…When I copied all the elements to a new project, everything works as it should.
So either a setting or bug in the original project file. I’d love to know what it is.
thanks.

January 10, 2010 at 9:02 pmThere are 3 toggles that need to be checked when key framing tag properties — it’s likely you’re ticking the first two and not the third. When you check the property, be sure to keyframe both the first and third toggle (right next to the word visibility) or the property won’t interpolate.

January 31, 2013 at 9:54 pmI have a somewhat related issue.
I have a display tag applied to a cloner, the visibility was keyframed from 100% to 0% over a second or so, and it worked fine, much like the opacity property in AE, everything faded out as expected.
Then I revised the scale property in a step effector applied to the cloner (I actually enabled and animated the scale on the step effector, before it was only affecting the rotation) and then the display tag stopped working. The keyframe values still go down from 100 to 0 over time, but the actual rendering shows the cloner disappearing from one frame to the next one at the very end, when the keyframe reaches 0.
I deleted the tag and reapplied it and the problem persists. I made a new document with a cube and the same tag and it works fine.
Any ideas?
