Hello, If anyone could help me I would be very thankful.

I have just figured out that by adding an adjustment layer to a comp with a mask set to subtract I can make a makeshift depth of field with a lens blur. Unfortunately my actors won’t always be stationary and will be moving.

So my question is- how do I Key Frame a mask so I can set the mask to move according to where my actor is moving? His movements are a little jerky so I need to make my mask contract and expand on different frames.

Every time I try to set the position and rotation it doesn’t set a key frame when I move on of the mask boxes. How do I move each box in a mask with key frames?

I’ll make some great things with this

Click the Mask Shape Stopwatch to set a keyframe, then, down the timeline, when you “Move the mask Boxes” they’ll be another keyframe. Mask Shape is what you want to animate.

Also, if you can track the object you’re trying to mask you cam attach the mask vertices to track points with two script. Here is an earlier post:

I also want to mention that Pete O’Connell has a DVD coming out with the cow that covers roto – and in it he talks a lot about using motion tracking in conjunction with masks – which is a revelation. His methods really reduce the amount of keyframing needed for masks. I learned a ton when I looked it over, so keep your eyes open for that DVD coming soon.

Looking forward to that. I loved his earlier tut on roto with the parade of vans.

    Hello, Ama newbie still.

    Am having difficulty with masking.

I have 2 layers. On top layer I make my mask with pen tool.
I set mask shape keyframe. And everytime I go to move an anchor point further in timeline, the whole mask moves.

Only time it works is if I start another mask point.

Am trying to keyframe a mask around a moving object, and this is irritating.

-am trying to get a plant to play a guitar :-). with use of puppet tool and masking.
