I have a standard mac keyboard that came with the computer. I have a G5 dual 1.8ghz power pc that i am running final cut pro 6.0 on. I have my keyboard settings to english and I reset them to default and I still cannot get the final cut shortcuts to work. I have not used this system before but on my old computer similar set-up the shortcuts were visible in a pop-up when I put my cursor over the edit buttons i wanted to use, it doesn’t even show that. Option and apple key do nothing, and the control key just makes a wierd symbols come up that looks like a lined piece of paper.

How can i get the standard editing shortcuts to work with my system?

Turn off expose and dashboard commands from the system prefs in OS 10. They overide all keyboard commands in all applications, and in FCP, it’s the editing commands they take over…

Go to User Preferences in FCP and make sure you have “show tooltips” checked. (By the way, I checked this on my system and for some reason the Tooltip guide did not pop up even though “show tooltips WAS checked! I quit and relaunched FCP and then they worked.)

And what I do is this: because I’m rather fond of the Expose keyboard shortcuts, I’ve moved my Insert and Overwrite FCP keyboard commands to F9 and F10 respectively, so I can continue using the Expose commands of F11-13. (I don’t use Replace Edits much so I can live without that shortcut in FCP.)
