Keyboard Shortcuts have died!
I have been using C4D 10.5 for a little while now and started getting some problems a few weeks ago. The ‘1’,’2′,and ‘3’ + mouse click shortcuts started to fail which resulted in me having to logout and back in to my computer in order for the keyboard shortcuts to work again. This was annoying but I could deal with it.
…fews weeks on, nothing, if I log out, restart,shut down, anything, the 1,2 and 3 shortcut keys dont work anymore and it is so annoying! As someone who does a lot of modeling I’m sure people out there would find these keys essential. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or is it just unlucky me? I have even reinstalled C4D and still the same issue.
I have checked the commend manager and even changed the keyshorts but nothing happens still. I would love to hear form anyone with some tips as this is really ruining my C4D experience.

Very strange, and a new one on me. Do the shortcuts still show up as being assigned in the Command Manager?

Yea They still appear in the Command Manager. I have even tried assigning then to different key strokes but still the same problem. I have also just noticed that holding down shift and selecting more then one pollygon or point does not work either. I have tried everything I could think of and nothing seems to be getting it back to normal. I have tried new keyboards etc. The keyboard works fine out of C4D so I’m guessing something is up in C4D. Is there a file or something I could delete/replace to get the shortcuts back to normal?

There should be a file called “shortcuttable.res” in your Cinema prefs folder. If you delete it shortcuts will (or should) revert to defaults.
If that doesn’t work, the first thing I would try is removing all plugins. If that fails I would remove the prefs directory completely. If *that* fails I would call Maxon’s tech support.

I could not find the “shortcuttable.res” file anywhere in my prefs folder and tried everything you suggested but no luck. I have homed down the problem now and I find that evy short cut in C4D work fine by themselves but the problem occurs when I click with the mouse and try a shortcut ie. shift+click. This now sounds like a very specific problem. I reinstalled both C4D and my OS and yet nothing has changed, still the same problem. this really sucks!

I managed to solve the problem. I had a third party application that I assigned to launch upon start up. When I close the application my shortcuts returned to normal so if any one gets into this problem I would advice trying this quick fix. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Hey Matt,
Looks like you posted this problem back in the day but have the same exact problem now with c4d 11.5. I closed down the only startup app (suitcase) but I’m still not able to select multiple polygons using the shift click method. Any thoughts?

Hi, this is the only thread i could find similar to my, rare, problem.
I have recently installed c4d v 11.5 also, and NO keys on my keyboard are being recognized… apart from the F keys?!
I have tried preventing third party apps running on start up but this didn’t help.
All other apps are fine.
Any thoughts would be most welcome, this is quite annoying!
