  • Key to audio is?

I was experimenting with cloning lastnight and I got pretty good with it, but I didn’t have a good mic to pick up my voice. I later came back to overdub the voice which proved to be a pain.

I guess the key to doing this successfully is getting a good audio track with a good microphone as I am filming rather than we doing the audio later, is this correct?

    Blessings!

    You are correct.
Recording good clean audio while on location is always preferable to trying to “fix it in post”.
The “big boys” do this all the time but they have much larger budgets as well as the tools and people who know how to do it.
I’m not saying you can’t do it, only that it’s a lot harder than most people think it is.

is one example I found (doing ADR on King Kong) while doing a search.

The fortunate thing going for me is I am a sound engineer and I have all the correct sound equipment. But wasn’t sure if the audio fix in post was not good or I was doing something wrong. It is a whole lot easier for me to record with the filming than what I was doing.

    Thank you!

Richard, you obviously have the necessary skills and hopefully the tools to do a great job out in the field.
I know it can be hard, especially if you’re a one-man band like me, but the end result is always worth it.

[Richard Milner] “I am a sound engineer and I have all the correct sound equipment. “

If you’re a sound engineer, then they term “we’ll fix it in the mix” should send shivers up your spine. The same is true with video. A $10 mic close up will beat a $1000 mic across the room any day of the week. There is no substitution to getting good audio to start with.
