  • Kernel Panic-Due to Raid Tower Compatibility?

I purchased my edit system via PROMAX:
Mac Pro with Dual quad 3ghz Intels
    Kona 3 Card
and a 5 TB SATAMAX Raid that consists of two towers with 5 drive bays (500 gig per)

The other day the power supply on one of my 5 TB SATAMAX Raid towers died…..what to do? I call Promax and they were very helpful….. they told me the SATAMAX drive enclosure is now disconitued, but the Sonnet esata 5 bay enclosure would work. I did a rush order since I’m in the middle of a project and installed the drives in the new enclosure…. so far so good. I started having issues in FCP …. jerky video… audio out of sync…. then the curtain of death aka Kernal Panics started when I was transferring a jpeg from a DVD.

When all the drives are disconnected I don’t have any issues, but the system is crashing whenever I have both towers plugged in together. I downloaded the latest driver from Sonnet for the PCIe card (Tempo Esata e4P), but I’m still getting kernel panics when the raid is connected.

I’m thinking there’s a compatibility issue between the two different enclosures?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
