About a month ago we started having problems with drives failing. We figured this was wear and tare stuff and ordered two batches of G-Tech drives.

Every time we transferred media onto the drives the drive would freeze up any system it was connected to, mysteriously mount and dismount and just act wonky. When we ran disk warrior on it we started getting Kernal Panic errors.

Often we were using eSATA to transfer media and after digging were told it might be a compatibility issue between the drives and our eSATA card. However we tried transfers via firewire and it’s still acting up.

We’re still running off Leopard so it’s not a Snow Leopard issue, and it seems that any G drive (even the older ones) that are connected to that computer winds up with problems.

Is my computer possessed? Anyone out there have an idea of what this could be or how to go about properly trouble shooting it.

Your kernel panic log points directly to your sonnet card. Im guessing your esata card is a sonnet card.

Esata drivers are notorious for giving problems. Not just in the newer os 10.6 but also in 10.5.

The first thing i would do is uninstall the drivers and then download new ones from the web.

Erase and reformat the drives in disc utility.

    Cheers

I’ve tried reformatting all the drives and ran disk utility and disk warrior. All the signs are pointing at the eSATA card. I think I’m going to have to change it.

    Thanks.
