  • keep reflection of something chrome while keying out my green screen?

    Hello everyone,
I am new to this site and excited at the same time. My question is- Let’s say I have an actor in front of a green screen holding a Samurai sword and the reflecion of green is all over the chrome. I want to keep the blade without keying it out when I key out he green back drop. If I pick the color green to key out, the sword would turn into an outline because the green reflection takes out the “fill” of the sword. If anyone can help I would highly appreciate it. Thank you and take care!

What you can do is re-shoot the shot and light it so the sword will not have the green reflections if not you only really have two options that I know of and that is to either rotoscope the person and the sword, and the make a adjustment layer that will act as a layer to the sword and then use you blending modes to blend it in with the sword and blend out the green color. OR you can key out the color and then use photoshop/maya etc… to make a replication of the sword.

    Good Luck,

Alright you need to roto out the sword and develop a luma matte where you are just keying everything but the sword. Then you can go use that some matte to make an adjustment layer where you hueshift the green in the sword or desaturate it to remove the green. This would be the best way to approach it i would be thinking without having to resort to 3D or a reshoot.

I have a scene with a complex sword fight. All on green screen.

Key is removing sword due to spill and reflection. If the sword was stationary, lighting only the sword would be easier, but in this case there is too much motion.

Is there a way to avoid roto? Or is that just what has to be done?

    Thanks.
