Is there a way for AE to keep a “placeholder” layer in a comp after deleting an asset from the project? I’m trying to make a template project with a dozen video clips. I want to be able to set up the comp, delete the assets from the project, then save the project with the “color bars” layer placeholders.

But when I delete the asset from within the project, it removes its reference from the comps that I set up.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks-

    Matt

technically, the file in the project is the place holder, just delete the media file (or move it from the directory that it is in), and you’ll get the color bars for missing media.

new media could then be added by selecting the ‘missing’ media file in the project window and choosing file>replace footage>file…
