JVC HDV outputtting 1080i
Posted by Patrick Simpson on August 14, 2007 at 8:48 pmOn the JVC website, it says this about the GY-HD200U and GY-HD250U: “New cross converter outputs 1080i from live or recorded HDV”.
Does this mean I can shoot 720p on the tape, then later, capture it out of the camera as 1080i? Has anyone done this before?
Also, could I record the 1080i straight out of the camera into a firestore hard drive? The reason I ask is this: Avid can’t mix HD formats – 720p and 1080i. But if I could capture the JVC HDV as 1080i, then I could mix it with HDV from Canon.

August 15, 2007 at 3:45 pmIt says it right on JVC’s site:
“The GY-HD200 can be set to output 1080i/60 from any recorded 720p/60 footage, whether recorded on a MiniDV cassette or on the DR-HD100 hard disk drive.”

August 15, 2007 at 3:55 pmThat is helpful.
I was hoping to also hear from someone who has actually done it – just because sometimes things don’t work as well as they’re supposed to.

August 16, 2007 at 6:28 pmYou can’t record onto a firestore as 1080i becuase the cross conversion is only possible via analog out (maybe SDI on the 250 but not sure). You would then need a Black Magic or AJA card to capture analog component HD. In other words the conversion is not possible over firewire.
Depending on your NLE there’s nothing wrong with capturing the JVC as 720p60 and just dropping the footage into your 1080i timeline. I pretty sure the lates release of FCP does this in real time now but I haven’t tested it.

August 17, 2007 at 2:37 amI’m working primarily on Avid which can’t mix 1080i and 720p. Doh!

September 19, 2009 at 7:21 pmSo is it possible then to output in real time, live, the cross converted 1080i signal via Component Out using the 2007 HD-200U model, not the B series.

November 12, 2009 at 8:31 pmHi James,
I’ve recently brought a second hand HD200 and Focus DR-HD100 (DTE) and both manuals say yes to recording in 1080i (live), but I can’t get it to work.
1080i Camera On and setup as described in both manuals and I get ” 1080I REC INVALID!”. But the DD icon is displayed and a tape is load, but still no change.
Can anyone suggest a fix or better set of instructions?
Cheers,
Ben -

March 23, 2013 at 8:46 pmHello,
Just came upon this post and wondering if anyone has figured out the trick to getting GY 200U to output 1080i.
Also, Love this camera, but now have deal with Live U backpack and the unit sees every fire wire EXCEPT for my 200U.
Has anyone had the same issue? Any ideas?
Thanks.
