August 16, 2006 at 4:28 pmHDV – 720p30 seems to have worked well. all HDV footage has been downloaded, and it jumps across TC breaks almost effortlessly in “capture now” mode (though, unfortunate that it even has so many TC breaks merely due to starting and stopping the camera while shooting!)
still can’t get it to output regular DV footage from mini-DV tapes, though they play fine in the viewfinder. from other people’s posts, it looks like this one really can’t output DV? seems odd…
thanks for helping out a bonehead!

HDV – 720P30 is the preset you want if you shot in HDV mode.
Yeah most of the time you can indeed plug in firewire live and that was the intent from the get go, but it seems there is something about apple systems that the 6-pin (2 for power 4 for data) firewire port is live when it shouldn’t be and it can easily smoke the firewire ports on camcorders.
Most rental decks with a firewire option usually have a notice inside the case saying you smoke it you pay for the repair.
JVC has stated they will repair a blown firewire port 1 time as a courtesy.
