JVC GY-HM790 How to fix dead pixels
If you find you have a dead pixel in your JVC PRO HD GY-HM790…
here is what you do to make the dead pixel go away.
I usually know I have a bad (dead) pixel when I’m shooting video and there is a dark
background. There will be a white dot on my LCD screen & viewfinder that at first seems to be lint or a speck of white…but it doesn’t go away when you clean the lens. That’s a bad pixel. And when you are shooting video and there is a dark background, that white dot really stands out when you pan the camera.Here is how you make the correction:
Let the camera warm up for about 40 minutes. It MUST be warm.
Make sure the camera format is set to 1280 x 720 60fps
Turn off the camera.
Before you turn it back on….hold down the DISPLAY button which is next to the switch that controls
your audio monitor select (chan 1/both/chan2). Hold the DISPLAY button down while you turn on the power to the camera.Once it powers up and you see a display in your LCD or viewfinder….. Press the MENU button and the FOCUS ASSIST button AT THE SAME TIME. Use the Focus assist that is directly above your USER 1 button (not the Focus Assist on the handle of the camera).
You will see an Advanced Screen.
Choose: Pixel Compen Det. Change the setting from Cancel to Execute by pressing the Set button. It will then flash Execute. Press the Set Button again. It will begin to Execute the pixel fix. It takes about 30 seconds. The screen will prompt you when to turn off the camera and turn it back on. TAH-DAH! No more dead pixels. Then you can return your camera format settings to what you usually shoot in.I hope this can helps my fellow JVC Pro HD camera users. It’s very difficult to find these instructions on the JVC website or Google. Believe me, I’ve spent much time searching.

I bought a couple used/demo HM790’s a couple years ago and am starting to get dead pixels. Thanks to your post, they have all been cleared up! Thanks so much for your procedure. Do you know the procedure for the GY-HM890U? The buttons are slightly different on that model.

Hello,
I need help, I performed the dead pixels commands and I follows all the steps. Once the command to clean the pixels was executed the screen went black. I turned the camera as instructed and the camera viewfinder is black.
The menu screen and all the other commands are still visible. What should I do to fix this problem?
