  • JVC GY- HD250 tapes in a Sony deck?

Posted by Joe Davenport on October 29, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Anyone doing this with any success? I have a customer who shoots on a GY-HD250 and uses the BR-HD50 deck fine. However, he has customers who want to bring him Sony HDV tapes and wants to know if the tapes he shoots in his 250 will play back in any of the Sony decks.

My gut feeling is the since the GOP stream is different that they will not play together, however I have heard that there are some decks that will play back JVC material as long as they are in a certain frame rate and it will only play out the component output, not the digital.

Can anybody confirm this? And if so, which frame rates work and which don’t?

    TIA.

I don’t think the Sony and JVC HDV are not cross compatible. GOP is different, and the Sony is 1080i, JVC is 720p, with 1080i only from onboard converter.

    Here is what I found:

The Sony HVRM35, HVRM25A, and HVRM15A can play back JVC 720 HDV tapes
at 30P, 24P and 25P. No other resolutions or frame rate including 60
are supported, firewire output is not supported. HVRM15 only
    supports 30P.

This info is from the Sony Posse.

    Good to know info.
Got to say that no firewire, would translate to won’t play for a lot of folks.

Nope not compatible AT ALL. JVC HD is unique to JVC as is SOny. You cannot playback a tape that was shot on A sony on a JVC. Main reason is GOP and the format differences. Sony is 1080 and JV 720

i shot for a client on 720 , sent them the tape and had a call an hour later telling me the tape has nothing on, They were trying to play the tape on a sony deck
