JVC GY-HD users, especially 200 model – Tapes & Decks
What kind of decks do you guys use for this camera?
I will be doing some work with this camera and went to buy a deck but the store said this cam will only work on decks that play back 720p. All the decks they had playback 1080i.
The rep said the higher end decks playback 720p which makes me nervous budget wise.Also what kind of tapes do you guys use? Is it recommended to use any other kind of tapes (slightly cheaper) or just the JVC m-dv63ProHD tapes?
I’ve been to many stores in Toronto and I can’t find this tape, it’s not even in stock anywhere. Once store said they can order it but JVC has a back order but will not be shipping till Sept 27. What’s worse, it’s about $16CAD a pop!
It seems everything to do with this camera is expensive.

I have a GY-HD100 and capture with a JVC BR-HD50. Don’t know how much that deck costs, or even if it’s still made, as it was included in the camera deal purchased by my organization back in 2005.
I personally use Sony DVM60PRR tapes with my camera, and haven’t had any problems with them. I don’t know if other tapes would give better results but again, no problems with these.

You might consider buying a FireStore harddisk and record m2t files directly on the disc. That saves the whole deck and tape issue. We just did a 2 hour documentary without problems,
