I am hoping to get the opinions of those who have succeeded in convincing their bosses to fund a trip to Vegas in the past.

I’ve never been to NAB, but would really like to go. I’ve checked out the NAB website and found it not the most useful around, it does, however, do a great job of reeling of dollar costs for everything.

So my question is a two pronged one…

What would my fellow editors suggest as must see stands, events, features, etc?

What arguments could you suggest to make it sound a necessity that my boss pays for a few days trip over to Las Vegas?

Honest, Boss – its not a jolly at all. I don’t want to go but i feel its my duty….

The real justification to go is to see and feel everything in one place at one time. There’s really no other place outside of IBC in Europe that you can do this. All the brochures in the world don’t help you as much as just 10 minutes in front of the right person at the equipment booth.

If you are not going for all four days, I highly suggest you go in for the last two days. One, you’ll already read about all the new items that have been released, this will help you plan out what you want to see.

Two, the crowds thin out on Wednesday and especially on Thursday giving you a better opportunity to get hands-on time with the equipment.

Personally, we have decided not to attend this year as we have a lot of production scheduled for April and I have found that I can get enough unbiased opinions both on this forum and through folks I know who are attending.

Everyone should go to NAB at least once and everyone should got to Las Vegas at least once (although China has built the biggest casino in the world now). Although I found the NAB trade show awesome I really enjoyed the Las Vegas experience. Attendees should make time for a Vegas Show, Helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon and the Buffet at the Bellagio.

Don’t tell your boss the above or he’ll go.

Dealers often have some really good specials at the trade show. Scan the program guide for specific seminars. Side by side equipment “shoot-outs” are a great opportunity to compare products.

“everything is broken” ……1st. coined by Esther Philips I believe.

Don’t forget that we have an NAB forum. It’s especially important to get that on everybody’s radar NOW, because I expect everyone who goes to post their impressions there. 🙂

And seriously, even though this one is under control, and thoughtfully labeled OT, it deserves more discussion than we can let it have here. We have a forum for it. It’s quiet now, but let’s work on lighting it up. It’s kind of like a party — the more people there, the more fun everyone has.

    See ya over there.

    Thanks for understanding,

    Tim
