Just me or a known bug?
I noticed that if I apply a drop shadow to a photo that is part of a group, the drop shadow doesn’t show up in the render.
If I bring in a photo and put a drop shadow on that, it’s fine. If I group that photo with some text, for example, and only the photo has the drop shadow but not the text and not the layer, it looks good in Motion but when I render the thing (through Compressor or through Motion), the drop shadow isn’t there. So I’ve had to add the drop shadow to the photo in Photoshop, which works but isn’t optimal.
Is anyone else getting this behavior?

Are you talking about a nest? The shadow is applied to the nest as a whole, not the individual items. Place the drop shadow on the individual elements first, then nest them.
