Just can figure this out

Walter’s tutorial was the first place I looked, but it just doesn’t seem to work for me. I have TWO tracks. On V1 I’m placing the video. One V2 I’ve got the png file with the video screen. Theoretically, I should be able to just take the png on V2 and using alpha luma, be able to see the video appear on the little video screen. It’s not happening

Check to make sure that “invert” is not selected.

Other than that, there’s nothing I can think of other than possibly trashing permissions, just to see if there’s something messy happening under the hood that’s just keeping FCP from behaving as expected.

That’s the weird thing. Reverse alpha remains checked no matter what I do. This seems so easy. Are you suggesting trashing preferences?

Reverse alpha does not sound right to me Greg.

The matte filter should have an “Invert” checkbox. There’s nothing related to the alpha channel that you’re doing here according to your initial post – with a matte you’re either cutting a hole in your top layer, or cutting around something in your top layer. Where’s the alpha channel come into play?

No David, I’m not doing anything with a matte filter, so there’s no invert checkbox. I’m just taking the attached image and trying to get video to play in the screen.

Yep! Understood…

You have two solutions:

1) Play the video on V1 and cut a hole in the image above using the matte filter on V2.

2) Play the video on V2, scale it down to fit in the screen on V1.

Actually trashing preferences did the job. I’ve just put that image on V2 and put moving video on V1, and it’s showing up though the screen. Don’t know why. But I’m sure I don’t need a matte filter or to do what you suggested in option 2. There’s already a hole cut in the screen.

You don’t need to use any composite mode, mate or key. The alpha is ready in the PNG.
The video track in the V1 and the PNG with the Alpha in V2 is the way.
You should see directly the video through he “hole” in the PNG.

So there was something wrong in the Prefs that didn’t let Fc working properly.
