Just a small resolution humbug with P2 !!
I know there is probably a simple reason for this one but I could find nothing in the archives.
Take a look at this scenario.I have some P2 footage shot at 1080i from the HVX200 on my LHe system.
My external monitor displays the 1920 x 1080 image and the 2nd monitor shows the downconveted SD image .
However item properties on that clip states that it is 1280 x 1080. So which is it? 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 1080.Secondly if I export this clip for compositing on a PC (as animation codec) which resolution should I use?.
Any thoughts?!

That’s because Panasonic’s DVCProHD codec is 1280×1080, just like Sony’s HDV codec using 1440×1080. AJA cards interpolate the footage to its full sized resolution. The ONLY way to get 1920×1080 from a Panasonic camera is to capture the footage live using an Uncompressed codec, not even using the P2 cards in the camera.
There’s nothing wrong with the resolution at 1280×1080. As a matter of fact, you’d be hard pressed to tell if the footage is 1920×1080 Uncompressed or 1280×1080 DVCProHD.

ALWAYS export using the codec you are editing. The footage will not get any better exporting to Uncompressed.

Ok thank you, I knew there was a simple enough reason for this.
On the export to PC, I must use another codec other than DVCPRO HD because of the whole licensing thing that prevents PC’s from reading mac DVCPRO HD Files. It was explained in more detail in a previous post in here somewhere.
