I’ve been a Vegas editor for years and I’m now learning Premiere Pro. The more I’m using it the more I like it. But two of my biggest complaints have been the the cutting and the playhead movement. I discovered that ctrl+k will cut on the timeline with the playhead. Excellent, just like Vegas, even programmed my “s” key to do the job since ctrl+k is awkward and snapping is so easy to turn on and off above the tracks. But I’d like to know if there is a way to jump the playhead around to where ever my cursor is without having to drag it.
For instance in Vegas if my playhead is on the left side of the timeline and my mouse cursor is the on the right side, I can just click anywhere on the timeline and my playhead will snap to my cursor position. I don’t have to go back to the other side of the timeline, grab it and drag it.
Is there a way to do this in Premiere Pro?

If you go to the keyboard customization window, and change the view to Windows > Timeline window, you will find the “Move to CTI” shortcut. It is unassigned by default.

You can also use the Pg up and pg down shortcuts to go to the next in/out of each clip.

    Cheers,

Typed too fast. You guessed it, it’s actaully called “Move CTI to cursor”

Hmm getting warmer. But it still requires me to assign a button and use that. I just want to be able to click with my left mouse button and have the CTI snap there. Is there anyway to assign that mouse button?

That’s why some editors have the “Contour” controller for this purpose (I love it!).

If you click your mouse at the top of the timeline where the time scale is, the CTI playback head will snap there.

Yeah I guess that will have to be good enough. Not quite as fluid as just being able to click anywhere though.

    Thanks everyone
